Youth Takeover Presents: Grease Sing Along - it was brilliant!

On Friday 18th August the members of South Holland Centre’s ‘Youth Takeover’ in Spalding, held an amazing double event at Ayscoughfee Hall, Museum and Gardens. The first one was ‘Music at Ayscoughfee’ from 5pm with local talented acts. The crowds gathered on the lawns with their picnics and chairs and were treated to some wonderful live music from Tommy Loose, Lily Evans, Alice Kat and Alex Waller. The music event was followed by a SOLD OUT outdoor screening of ‘Grease Sing Along’ later in the evening. We were delighted to see that some of the audience members got into the spirit of Grease, and dressed for the occasion. Some wearing 1950’s style dresses, and some wearing the famous pink ladies and T-bird jackets.

The curators of the event South Holland Centre’s Youth Takeover, designed their own photo booth area as a 1950’s inspired diner. The set was complete with a table, chairs, checked floor, milkshake glasses and various props. Audience members enjoyed posing for photos with their families and friend, you can see the photo's here. To set the outdoor cinemas vibe even more, the café sold American inspired treats such as hotdogs, popcorn and candyfloss throughout the evening.

The lawn filled up with eager Grease fans of all ages, they really seemed to enjoy the screening and even getting involved in some of the iconic dance moves during ‘Grease Lightening’ and ‘You're the one that I want’. At the end of the event we received a lot of positive feedback from audience members; “Fun, well organised, value for money”, “Lots of fun and hope to see it happening every summer. Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, Mamma Mia”, “Enjoyed the music beforehand. Good organisation by Youth Takeover”.

Venue Manger Sally Harrison from the South Holland Centre says “Our Youth Takeover group’s idea to combine their annual outdoor music event with a fun film screening for the whole community proved to be a great one. The feedback we have had from the event has been really positive and even the rain supported us by skirting around Ayscoughfee Gardens on the night!” “Enjoyed the music beforehand. Good organisation by Youth Takeover”.

We hope to continue these type of events next year so watch this space.
